Week 2: Lecture Task

Fiona Hall - Medicine Bundles for the non-born child, 1993
This piece is made from recycled Coca Cola cans. They have been cut into thin strips and then knitted together to form various items used for babies such as a jacket, booties, and bonnet. Also included are 3 ‘bottles’ and a teething ring. The material selection used in this piece is of great significance as it is suggestive of the materialism and consumer driven societies that exist today. Also because it is one of the most recognisable labels, this artwork also questions the direction children are heading and the influence of previous generations on them

Rosalie Gascoigne - Gazette, 1994
Gascoigne’s Gazette is made from a combination of sawn wood and plywood. This is significant because Gascoigne tends to practice the art of recycling and mainly creating art with found objects. By creating art in this way, it creates new meaning in the artwork. The disjoined arrangement of the materials is cleverly used as well as the earthy tones.
