Studio Task for Week 1

STEP 2
(A)

These structures were inspired by nature and growth, particularly shells. I chose not to hide the knots that hold the structures together. Some may consider it to be ‘messy’, however I felt it added an interesting element to the piece. In some ways those knots are one of the most important elements of the structure. If they weren’t there, the structure would fail to stand.

(B)

Aesthetically, some may argue that this piece of architecture may not be ‘great’. However I consider the concept and motives behind it to be great nonetheless. Michael Reynolds is the architect behind this “earthship”. The idea has come about in response to the current pressures that exist in relation to the environment such as climate change as well as limited and declining fuel and water supplies. He addresses these issues by not only constructing the entire home out of recycled garbage, but also equipping each “earthship” with clean energy supplies (ie solar and wind power), rainwater tanks, and many other components making this type of shelter nothing but sustainable and reactive to our current yet ever-changing environment

(C)

No straight lines exist in nature, not even the horizon. If you look closely you can see the slight curve.
This shot was taken from a plane window somewhere in between Sydney Australia and Port Vila Vanuatu during sunset. The photo definitely does not compare to the real thing however I feel it still captures its beauty.
STEP 4

HALL: health, scandalise, controversial

MOFFET: relationships, abuse, confronting

GASCOIGNE: origami, confuse, disjointed
